Why is makeup without parabens better?

To judge why make-up without parabens is better, it is useful to understand what parabens actually are. Parabens are preservatives and this is an important part of cosmetics. Because without (or bad) preservatives, your make-up will not last long and will be full of bacteria in no time. This naturally causes skin problems, so preservatives are functional in that sense. Parabens are an effective preservative, little is needed to keep make-up durable.
The problem is that a lot of make-up has many more preservatives added than necessary. Parabens are known as Xenoestrogens. These are substances with an estrogen-like effect that disrupt the hormone balance. Studies have shown that this can cause increased estrogen levels in the long term. As a result, parabens are related to, for example, breast cancer or infertility.
There are different types of parabens (methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben or benzylparaben) with a big difference in safety. Unfortunately, there is still too little research into the actual health effects of parabens. To be on the safe side, it is better to avoid parabens and opt for make-up with natural preservatives.
When it says on your makeup; without parabens, pay attention if still good. It does not mean that no other harmful substances have been added to the product!

The importance of make up without synthetic perfume

Synthetic perfume is the main cause of skin irritation. When it says 'perfume' on a make-up label, you often don't know what kind of perfume it is or where it comes from. It can cause allergic reactions and be reactive to your skin. The consequences are mainly red or itchy spots. If you suffer from sensitive skin or blemishes such as acne, perfume can make this worse.  Make-up without the mess

In some cases, the use of perfume in make-up products can also perioral dermatitis cause. This skin condition is also known as clown eczema. It is strongly associated with overuse of strong synthetic products and hypersensitivity.

Synthetic perfume can also cause collagen breakdown, which you only notice after decades. This will get you faster wrinkles under your eyes and sagging skin. It makes your skin more susceptible to external influences and hinders the skin's recovery process. That is why you should always avoid synthetic perfume in make-up, regardless of your age or skin type.
You can of course also be sensitive to certain natural essential oils as a fragrance ingredient in make up. Always check the ingredients on the packaging in advance.

Make up without micro plastic, of course!

Many people do not know that some make-up contains very small plastic particles that cannot be seen with the naked eye, called micro plastic. This is used to improve texture or make a product waterproof. Plastic in cosmetics and facial care can be found on the INCI list as polyethylene, polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate or polymethyl methacrylate. This is unnecessary because there are very good alternatives to micro plastic in make-up. Not only better for your skin but also for the environment! Our sustainable make up and the packaging is therefore plastic-free and fully recyclable.

Make up free of harmful substances, what should you pay attention to?

It is now clear that many cosmetic products contain harmful substances that it is better to avoid. This mainly concerns these ingredients:
  • acetone
  • Alcohol
  • Benzophenone-1
  • Butylated hydroxyanisole BHA
  • Cyclotetrasiloxane (D4)
  • Ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate (octinoxate)
  • Lead
  • Methyl Nicotinate
  • Methylparaben and Ethylparaben
  • Nikkel
  • oxybenzone
  • Oxybenzone (benzophenone-3)
  • PABA
  • Perfume
  • Propylene glycol
  • Propylparaben and Butylparaben
  • Sodium lauryl sulfate
  • Synthetic dyes
  • Triclosan
The ingredients on the packaging of cosmetic products are always described in the same way. Namely according to the International Nomenclature for Cosmetic Ingredients (INCI). This way you can easily recognize them.

NB; "organic" is not a protected concept, if only one organic ingredient has been added to make-up, it can already be called organic. It takes time to find the right make-up and to distinguish promising slogans or price bangers from quality content.
